Company
What does Appliscale do?
Appliscale is an independent technology consultancy. We design, build, and operate production systems for our clients, with deep specialisations in adtech, gametech, and operator-led venture work.
How long has Appliscale been in business?
Founded in 2015. Eleven years operating in 2026, with continuous engineering work for the same long-term clients running across most of that span.
Where is the office located?
Życzkowskiego 14 in Kraków, near Politechnika Krakowska. We also operate out of Wexford, Ireland. The team is remote-first across both.
Who are Appliscale’s clients?
Several Fortune 500 companies across Europe and both coasts of the United States, alongside smaller specialist platforms in adtech, gaming, and AI.
Working at Appliscale
What contract types do you offer?
Umowa o pracę, B2B, or umowa zlecenie for students. The choice is yours, based on what works for your situation.
Is the work remote?
Remote-first. No required office days. The Kraków office is open if you want it, and a few of us are there most weeks, but it is never a condition of the role.
What are the working hours?
Roughly eight-hour days, with most engineers starting between 7 and 11 in the morning CEST. We coordinate around stand-ups and reviews; the rest of the schedule is yours.
What kinds of projects will I work on?
Current active areas: AI legal-tech, gaming infrastructure, intelligence and analysis platforms in Elixir and Phoenix, low-code API integration, and high-throughput adtech systems. Mix and rotation are normal across a career here.
What is the tech stack?
Polyglot by design. Go, Node.js, Java, TypeScript, Python, C#, Erlang and Elixir, plus mobile where the project calls for it. We pick the stack that fits the problem rather than forcing a house standard.
Can I switch between tech stacks or projects?
Yes. With this many active engagements and languages in production, lateral moves between teams and stacks are common and encouraged.
How big are the teams?
Three to eight engineers per project, with a product or technical lead embedded. Small enough to ship, big enough to cover on-call.
What equipment do I get?
Premium hardware, your choice of machine and peripherals. Engineers pick what they actually want to work on.
How does skill development work?
Friday WKS, our weekly knowledge-sharing session, runs every week and is open to the whole team. Corporate Navigators workshops cover the soft side: communication, client work, leading a project. Conference budgets and internal mentorship round it out.
What skills are most valued?
A pro-active approach and clear communication carry the same weight as raw technical skill. The engineers who thrive here are the ones who flag problems early, write things down, and treat clients as collaborators.
What does a typical day look like?
There is no typical day. Stand-up, design discussion, code, review, and a lot of asynchronous work in between. The shape depends on the project and the phase it is in.
Internships
How long is the internship?
Three-month contract to start. We discuss next steps before it ends, based on the work and how the fit looks from both sides.
Is there a path to full-time?
Yes. Several current engineers and team leads started as interns and stayed.
How is compensation structured?
Hourly rate, scaled to your experience and weekly availability. We pay interns properly; this is paid work, not a token stipend.
What is expected of an intern?
Show up as a professional member of the team. Ask questions, ship code, communicate clearly. You will be on real projects with real clients from week one.
