Challenge
Our client needed to unify their infrastructure to optimise cloud costs, streamline support, and reduce the resources required for infrastructure maintenance. Additionally, they sought to accelerate deployment times and enforce standardisation across platforms. However, the migration of applications to different networks had introduced connectivity issues with some external clients, further complicating their infrastructure landscape and hindering operational efficiency.
Solution
We implemented a structured approach to address the client’s infrastructure challenges. First, we identified the service clients and prepared a working setup in a development environment. We then conducted load testing to ensure the new setup could handle the expected traffic. To prevent disruptions during the migration, we provided clear guidance to service clients on how to prepare.
The migration involved remapping large Terraform stacks from AWS into Kubernetes, creating a parallel infrastructure with all necessary components in the new environment. Traffic was gradually shifted to the new infrastructure using AWS Route53 weighted policies, allowing for a smooth transition without service interruptions.
Results
The project delivered significant benefits, including a 15% reduction in cloud costs through optimised infrastructure and unified runtime stacks. Deployment processes were simplified, both for the client and third-party services, resulting in faster and more efficient rollouts. Additionally, the unification of platforms across all teams improved collaboration and operational consistency, creating a more streamlined and scalable environment.
